Theme for 2015: Divide & Conquer!
The old axiom asks: how do you eat an elephant? Answer: one bite at a time! As we enter 2015, I really feel God is directing us to take this approach in our pursuit of Kingdom commitments.
When God reaffirmed His commitment to help Israel conquer their enemies and lay claim to their promised land (Joshua 1), He stated that He would do it “as I said unto Moses.” We find out just what He said to Moses in Exodus 23:30: Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land. (ESV) God’s plan was to portion out the territorial victories in increments they could feasibly manage: one city, one valley, one plateau at a time. He divided the challenge to help them conquer the country.
If we look out at the spiritual challenge facing us, it might seem overwhelming. I believe God would also have us divide in order to conquer. Here are some ways we are doing just that in 2015…
There are 89 chapters in the four gospels: we are taking the 90 Day Challenge: Reading a chapter a day to completely read through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Most of us encounter many different people from Monday to Saturday: We are committing to target three people a week as our potential guests on Sunday.
In the same way, we are striving to get just one person a month to commit to a home Bible study.
Although it’s not financially feasible for us to hold a lengthy series of revival services, we can (and will) designate the first weekend of every month as our Focus On Revival Sunday!
We believe God has much territory for us to conquer this year. With His help we are taking on the challenge…one bite at a time!
